Tree Reflections in Watercolour

Painting trees is a fun and relaxing subject in any media, for me.  But, it takes a little time to chill out and de-stress  before you’re ready and able to impart the serenity of the scene.  Rushing to paint after a hectic day, frantic drive or traffic jam  has led me to muddy up more than one painting on occasion.

I enjoyed painting the top subject in lovely warm autumn colours, based on memories of a small pond I hiked in to.  I took photographs but really all I did was use them as memory aids to help me recapture the spirit and essence of the quiet pond.

Fiddling was kept to a minimum,  my tonal values were meant to have  clear & evident  light, mid and dark values.  All in all,  I’m pleased with how the feeling of the place was conveyed and  the overall sensitivity of colour and tone in all three images.
