Fabulous Wild Flower
Amidst a busy week, I managed a short late afternoon stroll. Right down the block in a nature preserve I discovered this magnificent magenta flower in bloom. Even though its still winter, flowers bloom. I love Australia!!

Relaxing on a rainy day listening to Zen nature music, dabbling with my watercolour paints. Just what I needed. To have a little play, experimenting and creating many different types of trees in the process. Watercolour Painting: The Creation of Trees I’d played with watercolour paints blues and greens in the top image, with overlapping […]
I was busy with the paints today creating trees. It didn’t start off that way. I began with playing with the paints, warming up. I really wasn’t in the mood to ‘do a painting’ anyway. I just wanted to have a play and relax. Zen. Thats all. I began with mixing colours: lavenders, grey greens, […]
The Shasta Daisies grew profusely every spring, like weeds cropping up in abandoned fields and old homesteads. Growing up, I loved how they were June’s herald to a respite from the winter cold. Painted from memory only and as a demonstration painting for a workshop some time ago, I’m attached to my small memento that […]
Scarlet Love. As winter is nearing its end I’m discovering a new love for scarlet red. I’m painting and photographing all things in warm scarlets and fiery reds more and more as the weeks progress. I am taking advantage of my “scarlet love” while it lasts. Things will change in a few weeks. Temperatures will […]
A master at creating depth in watercolours, an artist I’ve long admired Ellis Rowan has returned to my attention. I was reviewing my posts and paintings the other day, assessing actually. When the vibrant scarlet of Red Dragon Maple Trees caught my eye and got me thinking that the Colour was reminding me of […]
Soft, nearly monochromatic colours combine with rich sandy textures and echo the loveliness of my seashore. It evokes the serenity I feel walking along the Western Australian beaches as the sun flares and sinks below the horizon. With the sun paling to a soft salmon peach I wanted to ensure my painting palette reflected the […]
Very exciting news for me, and I’m sharing the good news! My acrylic mixed media painting Indian Ocean Coastline, W.A. has just won the Curator’s Pick Art Prize, at the MCAA annual Art Exhibition in Perth, Western Australia. Acrylic Mixed Media Techniques The painting is a modern abstract using thick Indian Village watercolour papers […]
Watercolours aren’t really difficult. Easy to correct – just rinse off the paint. Easy to pack, clean up and carry around. They are great socialisers as they mix brilliantly with other forms of media. They married well with the Red Dragon Maples. I chose watercolours in the painting, Red Dragons for the transparency […]
Imagine going on a quiet pleasant nature walk, happily taking in the serene environment. When out of the blue, you discover the tree you’re leaning on is swarming with unknown alien creatures by the hundreds. Well, it did make me step back, just a little. Actually, it must have been rather funny to watch. I’d […]
